On the morning of August 27, the Foshan Institute of Wuhan University of Technology and the Hongxing Institute for Combustion Technology and Automation Control held a simple yet solemn unveiling ceremony at the Foshan Life Science Park.

Roger Nan, General Manager and Head of the Hongxing Combustion Technology and Automation Control Research Institute, led the institute's core team members; Professor Shui Zhong and Teacher Zhang Weibing from Wuhan University of Technology, along with key members from the Wuhan University of Technology Alumni Association, also attended the unveiling ceremony. Additionally, representatives from the Investment Promotion Bureau of the Chancheng Management Committee of Foshan National High-Tech Industrial Development Zone joined the event as well.
Foshan Hongxing Thermal Energy Machinery Co., Ltd. (Hereinafter referred to as "Hongxing Company") is a high-tech enterprise specializing in the research, development, and production of ceramic kiln burners and industrial kiln burners. Its products—boasting leading specifications, diverse varieties, robust output, and superior technical performance—have earned it the top position among its peers. Widely favored by leading kiln manufacturers and ceramic factories, Hongxing Company's products received unanimous praise from international experts attending the Italy International Ceramic Exhibition. Moreover, these innovative solutions are now exported far and wide to regions such as Southeast Asia, Europe, and North America.

In recent years, Hongxing Company, still rooted in traditional manufacturing, has placed a strong emphasis on technology research and development. It has teamed up with research groups from prestigious domestic and international universities—including Wuhan University of Technology, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and South China University of Technology—to jointly advance the development of advanced combustion control systems, intelligent equipment, and cutting-edge manufacturing technologies. Leveraging its longstanding and close collaboration with the Foshan-Wuhan University of Technology Research Institute, Hongxing Company has seized this opportunity to establish the Hongxing Institute for Combustion Technology and Automation Control, drawing on its own robust R&D capabilities and resources.
Over the past 15 years, the institute has served hundreds of local enterprises, organized and carried out more than 100 diverse science and technology projects, and achieved a number of significant research breakthroughs. In the context of the "innovation-driven" paradigm shift, the institute will leverage Wuhan University of Technology's academic and technological strengths, aligning closely with Foshan City's specific scientific and industrial needs. It will continue to excel in technological development and application promotion, helping the region attract cutting-edge technologies, top talent, and promising projects—thereby making an even greater contribution to driving local economic growth.
The Foshan-Wuhan University of Technology Research Institute focuses on platform development, collaborating with local governments and enterprises to jointly establish R&D centers, innovative research institutions, and other municipal- and provincial-level science and technology platforms. At the same time, the institute is actively pursuing technological partnerships in areas such as ceramic materials, intelligent equipment, chemical engineering, and construction projects. The establishment of the Foshan-Wuhan University of Technology Research Institute brings new opportunities for the company's innovation and development, as well as for enhancing scientific and technological collaboration within the region.

Both parties aim to use this research institute as a base to advance "industry-academia-research" collaboration. The initial plan focuses on developing cutting-edge technologies in areas such as new materials, industrial robotics, and advanced combustion control systems, with the ultimate goal of applying these innovations to diverse traditional industries—including ceramics, steel, aluminum profiles, heat treatment, and casting. Ultimately, the vision is to build "smart factories," with Hongxing Company serving as a pilot project. By leveraging the institute's R&D capabilities, Hongxing will achieve technological breakthroughs that drive the transformative upgrade of conventional manufacturing. Moreover, the institute intends to replicate and extend Hongxing’s "smart factory" model to other traditional manufacturing enterprises, further catalyzing the modernization and upgrading of these industries—and playing a pivotal role in realizing the broader goals of Industry 4.0.
